Ski Trip 2009: Postponed for Gaza...

Salam Alaikum,

POSTPONEMENT:

We regret to inform you that the ski trip has been postponed. This is done in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Gaza, who are suffering the Israeli onslaught as we speak.

GAZA:

The attacks on Gaza have disastrous consequences for civilians already living in acute conditions as a result of the 18 month blockade on Gaza. These attacks are destroying essential infrastructure, water provision and electricity for hospitals and homes, with devastating impact on civilians - which would lead to a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

Please read:

http://www.amnesty.org/en/news-and-updates/news/end-unlawful-attacks-and-meet-gazas-emergency-needs-20081229

We should ask ourselves two questions:

Q. If members of my family were subjugated to such attrocities, would I go skiing?
Q. If we were in the golden days of Islam, and a part of the Islamic Caliphate was attacked in such a way, would we go skiing?

Now, read this:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/dec/30/israel-and-the-palestinians-middle-east

These are family... they didn't die in an accident. They didn't grow old, fall sick, and pass away. They were brutally and indistinguishably murdered.

"مثل المؤمنين في توادهم وتراحمهم وتعاطفهم، مثل الجسد، اذا اشتكى منه عضو تداعى له سائر الجسد بالسهر والحمى"

The Prophet (asws) said, "The example of believers in their feelings of love, mercy and compassion for one another, is like a body, if one organ complains, the whole body stays up sleepless in high fever."

We should be spending sleepless nights, our temperature boiling... instead of enjoying ourselves skiing.

WHAT CAN YOU DO:

Instead of enjoying our time skiing or snowboarding, we can do the following:

1) Collect donations for Gaza...

Support the fundraising efforts for our brothers and sisters in Gaza... Just as you were going to spend $25 for a day of fun skiing, spend a fraction of it for the sake of Allah (swt):

2) Educate, participate, voice your opinion...

Show this PowerPoint Presentation to friends, family and collegues:

Here is a document full of facts that you could use. Here is a sample letter that you could send out.

Here are a few things we can do:

3) Make Du'aa...

Instead of the ski trip, let's all meet at the Main Mosque for Esha prayer at 6pm. Before and after the prayer, let's all sit for a few minutes and make du'aa for our brothers and sisters in Palestine. In our safe and secure lives, the least we could do is feel for them in our hearts.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We ask Allah (swt) to guide us to the best.

Jazakum Allaho Khair.

Sincerely,
MAC Youth Ski Trip 2009 Team.
